Charles Chaplin On-line II: 1915-1916

After the first part., with Chaplin’s films of 1914, the second include his films of 1915 and 1916:

In 1915 he began a year’s contract with Essanay film studios, and further developed his film skills, adding new levels of depth and pathos to the Keystone-style slapstick. In 1916, he signed a lucrative deal with the Mutual Film Corporation to produce a dozen two-reel comedies. He was given near complete artistic control, and produced twelve films over an eighteen month period that rank among the most influential comedy films in cinema. Chaplin later said the Mutual period was the happiest of his career

The tramp character is a constant in the films of that period, as the first major leading lady, Edna Purviance, discovered at Tate’s Café in San Francisco. With few exceptions, those short silent films of 1915 and 1916 were all written, directed, edited by Chaplin – and starred of course. And now that I have a brief introduction of his work at that epoch, here is the list of his films that are in public domain and available on-line:
