Charles Chaplin On-line I: 1914

The Kid
After Bela Lugosi, Buster Keaton, Dziga Vertov, now is the time of Charlie Chaplin. Sooner or later I would end up making a post about him. I’m doing it now because circumstances helped, and in this case they mean Internet Archive. There are many users there who from time to time add his films there, but a few weeks ago I noticed that a user uploaded tons of his films, and that looked very inspiring.
My first contact with Chaplin’s works was Modern Times. My father took all the family to watch it and I kept the image of the final scene on my mind for years, until I could watch it again. Even after I discovered his other films, Modern Times is still my favourite Chaplin film.
Modern Times
Chaplin was brilliant, sensible, and hilarious in his films, specially his later films that mixed poetry, comedy and drama to construct masterpieces. It wasn’t only his expressions and gags that immortalized him as the remarkable tramp. It was something else, more profound.
I wanted to make a homage to his works. The first idea was to write something about it, posting links like Charlie Chaplin Archive, Charlie Chaplin site or Charlie Chaplin Museum, but anyone could’ve found after a simple search. My second idea was to blog about his films on-line. Well, that’s more or less what I’m going to do, with the addition of a few other things.
The number of films was so big that I opted to make three posts, presenting his films by year, in release order, to give you a more visual idea of his cinematographic “evolution”. That’s the first post with his works to Keystone Studios, all from 1914. I selected links to places where you can download them, and watch, and read articles about them. According to the Archive they are all in public domain and that’s why I uploaded them. I hope you enjoy.

Melhor que Chaplin e Keaton só os 2 juntos, como naquela cena inesquecível do filme Limelight, de 1957; não é um grande filme, mas a cena é linda. Já estou a sacar filmes. Obrigado Bibi!
