Caligari is an amazing piece of work and the story within a story within a story framework is more stunning than just about anything M. Night Shamalamadingdong has ever come up with. Also, Tim Burton stole half his career from Caligari. The Somnabulist was obviously the inspiration for Edward Scissorhands, the Dr. himself is a dead ringer for the Penguin in Batman Returns, and lots of other stuff.
